well, what a productive afternoon,
after the brief frustration of not being able to get the engine case back yesterday i think things are much better... though i am wiped out...
i decided last night that i would have a hack at the 1.9dg motor that was sat in the back of the bus, its a bit of an unknown quantity but is mostly complete and looks liek a recent rebuild...
so after a pleasant afternoon playing with instant silicone gasket and scrabbling through boxes looking for bolts i have the engine all back together . all i need to do is get 4 new engine mounts and two studs (and a stud extractor) and i can bolts it in... it appears to have good compression and after a brief degrease its very clean and is a recent rebuild, by who is a mystery, the case ahs been stamped with U and an H, in separate places...
also ! now that the engine is out from inside the bus i got to sweep it out. it's properly minging. engine oil and EP90 gearbox oil soaked into the carpet and so much crap rubbed in with it... gah! ah well, after sweeping and some scrubbing it might survive - or i'll just rip it out and replace. I also got the rear seat (that i obtainied at the weekend) bolted in! joy of joys, its the right one, its comfy and plumphy and also needs cleaning.
and i degreased and scrubbed the engine bay. it's starting to look like it might be a bus again :)
hopefully engine in this weekend and if it runs then check it over and off for MOT

picked up the new con rod bolts from the main dealer this morning, £55 with vat !!!!
and they didn't even come ith nuts !
swapped out the old rod bolts and part assembled the crank with the pressure plate and flywheel with the new flywheel bolts etc.. all ready for the balancing now..
what i did spot, however, is that in my epic struggle to get the wrist pins out during dissassembly i seem to hav damaged one of the small end bushes... doh!
so send them off to have new ones pressed in, then balance it all...
called ove to see if the case was done and .. no not yet. apparently trying to get the out with acid....

called over to thomashells workshop at the weekend, he a jake were spannering hard under the back of the new syncro caravelle t25. lots of new bits n pieces and all being stripped out underneath for a subaru engine to be grafted in....
thomas was also fitting the old rock n roll bed that he'd removed from his last green syncro so ! ta da! i blagged (with the aid of a few quid) the rear seat from his 'velle to go into the devon...
a little bit dirty but complete and unripped with armrests and everything!.... it even folds down - but not into a bed... sadly...
still, with the interior panels i've blaggedfrom markgemman it's all coming together. hopefully pick up the engine case this week and the new con rod bolts i ordered from the main stealership and its off to build an engine...

after lots of faffing anf pauses left anmd right it all seems to be coming together...
after trying to get the head studs out of the case and having them just snapping like glass time after time i sent the case with the broken studs in ovet to a place thoma shell recommended, pison broke over on the other side of bristol...
the place is in a tiny unit on an industrial estate, the back is full of opld machines and the front is covered in random motorcycle engine parts with stacks of wiseco pistons of all sizes in beaps of boxes in the corners....
i wasn't too sure but after listening i realised that the old boy that runs it knows his stuff, he talks like its steamtrains but knows his physics, chemistry and metallurgy... he told me he'd done loads of cases iwth broken studs through the eighties &nineties and it'd be done in a week...
all good there then. i was starting to worry that i was stuck..
all the internals are waiting to be sent for balancing in coventry. all i need is new flywheel bolts - they're not strictly re usable... so off to the main dealer (no where else seems to be able to supply them...) and get a pulley gland nut too...
then realise that i need new con-rod bolts (the 2.1 bolts are stretch and not re-usable) so order form the main stealership again and i think it's all there...
crank, rods, flywheel, pulley, bolts etc off to be dynamically balanced...
case, cleaned and checked and ready for new head studs...
all i need now is to do a bit of shopping and all is go...

sadly all t25 engine bits are not cheap ! the main dealer wanted £300 for a gasket set and when i enquired about a new case i was quoted over £1500 + vat ! EEK!
i've also disassembled the new replacement heads and have located a set of interiort door cards from mark germman up in coventry, in the right sort of colour..
still huge amounts to do but i almost feel like it's starting to happen...
(i'm still toying with the idea of selling my house so i can spend all the money... EEEEEKKKKK! )

seems that akciddento as a skype usename is taken by a gamer in norway...
i'd noticed he was using this a few months ago and wondered if he'd seen the site...
seems he has. i set up skype and found his online and am chatting as i type...
but he's not convinced that this is me (if you see what imean)

all i need to do now is see if i can bribe him with t shirts to let me get the name akciddento to use on skype...
