what on earth is this doing in a bus of mine ?????
ah well...
got it bolted in and oil in and connected up (though did have to do some twiddling with a load of epoxy resin on the junction of one of the water pipes...
times were that i'd drop an engine in and all i had to worry about connecting was fuel and dynamo and making sure the oil didn't leak...
turning an engine over and having water leak out of it... especially purple water (cos of the antifreeze, --- even more nasty chemical soaked into my boiler suit...) it's odd....
anyhow the upshot is that i need to get another battery, some fuel and move the sun round so that i get more hours of daylight to work on the bus...
a quick blatt up to conors on friday night for a lovely relaxed supper in the hereford hills then pop into raceshack on saturday morning to see a hive of activity on the doublecab... how much i should tell i'm not sure but i think i've fallen in love with it...
the cage is in and the fit out is starting, its the same cage as botcheinvolks did for the samba year before last, but this one has some added bits...

these neat little prostyle x's on the door bars...

and paul botch was adding some box to the underfloor area for added stiffness. after an analysis of what happened to the trekker when it hit the wall at santapod raceway (120mph on an 11 second pass...) he's on it even more...

then back home, glubs on and bolt away...
wahey, the engine is back in the wasser boxer and filled with oil and coolant,m (in the right places !) all piped up and ready to go...
the exhaust don't fit round the engine support bar thoi...
but the baja header that i want to use wioth the turbo looks like it will fit with minimal modification...
got to run, got a meeting in cardifff..
more text and pics later...
:)d
well after the job of cleaningthe old 1.9 block out of the front room to make way for teenage jam sessions i found the all important box with all the bolts in!

so, come sunday lunchtime it's out into the drizzle on with som esurgical gloves and on with reassembly of the 2.1 block. sorted out the new waterpump, onw ith the pulley again, sort out the manifold & carb (temporary until the turbo manifold is fabricated) and a dozen other bits and then on with the wierd merged exhaust . after a bit of easing with a hammer and then with a hacksaw it went on and blimey, it actually is starting to look like something. maybe with a bit more cleaning and a vehicle bolted around it i might feel even better !
can nothing stop us ???!!!!
after looking into the prices of a new water pump i came to the conclusion that after i'd done the running around to find a machineshop to drill out the proken studs and helicoil the pump and then drop it off and collect it paying £24.50 for a brand new one with gaskets and seals wasn't too bad. and i still get to flog the old one on ebay to someone that has a helicoil kit...
so a trip to GSF and i come back with a new oil filter, oil, eight litres of coolant additive (eek... this stuff is expensive!) and a new water pump.
then onto spannering in the yard. the front wheel bearings on the hightop needed adjusting. they were changed at the end of the summer but are gettign noisy. hopefully this will sort it all out. trial fit the new water pump.mmmm nice and shiny. i also sprayed some bits black yesterday. they're shiny too and waiting to be bolted back on... feeling better about it already.
it might even work!
:D
well, with a bit of encouragement i got the pulley off the 2.1 and was able to extract the waterpump (after lots of 'gentle' encouragement) so i can get the studs drilled out. i stripped and cleaned the old efi throttlebody and lo and behold it's the same size as the RS turbo one i got from ebay. it's also got a microswitch on the spindle that i might use in the nitrous system. another plus is that it mounts up to the plenum chamber properly!
i got the intake manifolds and plenum chamber and some other bits n bobs into the sink for cleaning. the injector mountings are pretty rusted so i think they will need some work to get them ready for the k-jet injectors. once i actually get the old digijet injectors out (without mangling them !) i'll be able to tell properly.
more to come....
