had a visit from my father last night, on his way back south from a series of business meetings.....
after chatting through the evening and a few beers he revealed his tru identity to me as
Assault Gopher !
also got the new cyliner head and intercooler arrive this morning..

not bad for 99 p each ?
I also found this on my phone from paul and carols wedding earlier in the summer....

akciddento'd again!
finally got round to scanningthe camper and commercial article in for the archives...
so here it is... click on the images to pop up bigger files...
page one
and here's page two
here are the diagrams for the intended k-jet turbo setup from jamie.
good egg!
here's the k-jet setup as a schematic

heres another showing the whole system with turbo, k-jet etc...

jake came over for coffee and after cahtting about new projects, life the universe and everything got into a deep and meaningful discussion about turbo chargers...
..life is strange.
had a pleasant and relaxed evening but feelingitchy started working on some new images and hit this (amongst others) while reviewing the images for the exhibition...
i think i like it, i think it make start to make some sense of where my interest in the images and photography are going (though i have a horrible suspicion i might end up printing a load of black canvases-either that or following through the degradation to images made up of four pixels.... doh !)
i'll see what i think of it in the morning...
checked out the ebay purchases and found that not only had i won a new wasserboxer head for 99pence I won the intercooler for 99pence too...
let's see how hammered i get on the postage...
and i got the recirculating dumpvalve too...
it won't make that flashy hiss noise but is supposed to keep pressure in the manifold so that there's less lag spooling the turbo on on gearchanges etc...
wahay!!!
i just got a recirculating dump valve from a cosworth escort off ebay for £4.20 !
can i get all the parts for this without buying anything new from a shop ?
hmmm we'll see...
finally started the attack on the new project bus, can't think of a name for it yet so , the bus...
anyhow, clambered in and dejectedly turned the bus over. the battery is toast so a new one will need to be obtained.

while louie started on the interior panels, bumpers and other bits of trim i started encouraging the interior cab divider out.
this was achieved with a calm, reassuring voice, a grinder, four grinding discs, a jigsaw and three blades and a hammer and cold chisel....
and hey presto!
a walkthrough panel van!
after a cup of tea the engine and interior got a complete wash and a quick inspection. pulling the spark plugs was worse than i'd hope for. all were dark oily and completely gunked up but the one in number one cylinder seemed damp - water damp...
i'll pick up some new plugs, rotor arm, distributor cap and some other bits and see how we get on... i think it is a rebuild but if i can avoid it then i definately want to...
on a rather cool note it looks like i won an ideal intercooler on ebay last night for under £10 and then got a brand new wasserboxer cylinder head for 99pence!
off early to see jamie near oxford, jamie has been running a homebrew turbo injection system on his fugitive buggy that is just like what i'm trying to makeup and he tells me that he has accumulated spares from his scrapyard raiding missions...
...after a cup of tea and a pleasant soujourn into right/freedoms/morality etc and nearly drowing in the hunting with dogs bill discussion we root through jamies garage and come up trumps! jamie has even drawn out scheets of flow diagrams and schematics for the install..
louie and I depart very happy with the hitop loaded with
2 x garrett t3 turbos (one from a saab 900 the other from a fiat croma)
1 x k-jetronic CIS fuel injection system (from saab 900 turbo)
1 x fuel pump, fuel accumulator etc
2 x fuel filters
1 x golf gti k-jetronic airbox (with injectors and regulator)
1 x saab 900 k-jetronic airbox (with injectors and regulator)
various high pressure braided fuel lines
various other bits...
cool !
all i need is some piping, a dump valve (recurculating type preferred), an intercooler and a header...
oh, and a bigger dishwasher to put it all in...
:D
well, after the distraction of repainting my studio i kinda have it all back together and ready for work, doing the final cut and printing of images for the exhibition coming up in November at Centrespace. Today was tagged as a day to deliver artwork for the invites for the show to the printers and then have a properlook at thenew racebus. The maroon panel van has been sat in the drive since monday and i've hardly had time to look at it properly. I did charge the battery up on tuesday and it turns over but doesn't fire but i havent investigated why...
but the artwork for the printers isn't done, the studio is in turmoil and it's raining...
ah well..
on a positive note I had a great conversation with james who races a fugitive buggy in VWDRC earlier in the week about the homebrew injection/turbo system he put together. K-Jetronic mechanical fuel injection system with a garrett T3 trubo from a saab 900.
he did a session on the dyno at RaceShack and rolled in with 86bhp at the backwheels of the 1835cc engine and left after tuning and setup with 120bhp at the backwheels !
anyhoo, chatting with james it seems a positive way to go and with luck i'm popping over to see him on saturday. It would appear that he just happens to have all the major parts (bar a dump valve) to build another setup. I grabbed a load of info on the K-Jet injection system and although a little fiddly it looks ideal ! (and cheap)
on a budget side the idea is to try and get the van racing and pullign decent numbers on a VERY limited budget.., I may start accounting it all and stick it online so people can see the progress......
:D
well,
that was vanfest...
friday night get packed and headup to the malvern hills, wreathed in mist and rainclouds. unload the gear and set up the stall inside one of the huge sheds there... due to an administrative cockup (i forgot...) we had to take whatever space there was left tp trade and ended up indoors. bliss! warm , no rain, no gale force wind, no mud !
to cut a long story short friday night was long and social, chatting in camp selecta with the crew and meeting french friends of tims and talking garbage franglais with them long into the night... saturday and sunday were a relaxed blur, trading on the stall, chatting, jabbering excitedl;y about the new bus project... plaiing stuff in my head and doing a little bit of shopping for the new hightop westie wedge bus...
picked up this cool dash tray to screw onto the expanse of dimply brown steel that pretends to be a dashboad in the wedge. the big tray bit is hinged at the bottom edge and flips out to turn into a map sized flippy out table ting...
coming to fit it this morning i started to investigate some of the random screw that have been driven ionto the dashboard top over the years and discovered a 300w amplifier screwe under the dash... all plumbed in too! a few minutes fiddling and suddenly the 80's style alpine TAPE player sounds at least 26% better! bargain... a quick zip wid the handy cordless drill and hey presto! a huge expanse of moulded black ABS instead of the brown dimples....
AND!
last but not least, i'm wating for the NEW race bus to arrive... it's in leicester being loaded onto a truck as i type and should be here this evening!!!!
OOOOH! i'm nearly awake with excitement :D
well, it seems that i have bought the base for a new race bus, its on the other side of the country and i've not seen it but i've just arranged to have it picked up and delivered here next week.....
oops!
time to get busy with the hole saw methinks!
i saw jake last night, he of scooterblog fame. he's just returned from a 3 month trip to and around the greek islands on a vespa - and he's now planning next years escapade across europe! read all about it at www.scooterblog.com
well,
its been a long time since i last wrote in the weblog. i've stressed, spannered, bugjammed, photographed, toured france, VWactioned and a million and one other things...
i might gho back and update som eof the hilights from all the pictures i've taken and the notes i've made.... oh you lucky people !
today is a day of prepping for the vanfest show at malvern at the weekend. going through stock to check what we've got and what we've not. i processed the application for VISA merchant services today, finally, so that in ten days or so we can accept credit cards through the webshop rather than just paypal...
the sun is shining and the air is warm but i think that it's not going to last... maybe winter is really on it's way. i know its going to come no matter what but i need to feel the warmth in my bones for just one more day, one more day in the blistering white light at the beach, one more day of long warm dusty evenings. just one more day.
