but the good news is that i bought the soon-to-be akciddento pitbike from paul on the T3D stand. i think he found it at the tip, it's a cheap taiwanese knockoff of a schwinn style cruiser bike that paul, in his wisdom, sprayed gold.
it's not really what i had in mind but it saves me from
A. buying a $4500 segway as a pit bike
or
B. buying some other overpriced hairdryer-with-handles-scooter-thing.
so, problem solved. i think i might do a mild resto on it and spray it up the same colours as the bus...

i spent the day sat on the typethreedetectives stall or wandering around. i met up with ben and tom. ben being a celebrity DJ who dj's from his rather lovely celebrity double sliding door orange samba.
tom, on the otherhand has my favourite car of the moment. i saw this for the first time at the volksworld show at the beginning of the year and fell in love with it. the picture doesn't do it justice really. it's subtle and it looks so hard.
tom was telling me a story about how often people come up to him and give him hassle about the 'swastica' on the fender skirts. i can quite believe this, sadly there are people out there who don't know the difference between a swastica, probably the most reviled symbol in history, and a maltese cross.
tom said that he'd got a bit worried when recently, shortly after some older fellow had complained about said 'swastica' he noticed a car car full of large black men pull up alongside, engage in some animated debate in the car then drop behind and proceed to follow him for several miles.
after a bit of light hearted banter about this and peoples general stupidity i got to thinking, is this something people in the VW scene are a bit blase about ?
the maltese crosses on the sides of toms car are just that, maltese crosses, or Iron Crosses if you like. they're not swasticas and tom's NOT a bigot or a racist.
however...
the association that iron crosses are often used in is just that, a direct association... blitzkreig racing being a prefect example plucked from many...
i don't for a minute believe that the folks behind blitzkreig racing or those wearing their t shirts or stickers are fascists
but...
and this is where i got to....
for a little light relief from that useless ramble, heres ben and tom and jo and lisa in bens samba at about midnight. i took thsi as a panoramic with my phoen....
if you're wondering, the image does do it justice...
